No Baron Davis ... no Monta Ellis (for now) ... a little front office tension.
And it's true. The Warriors aren't as good as last year.
But you know what?
After giving it some thought, they've got a shot at returning to the playoffs. More than a shot at it, in fact. It's doable.
I'll give you these seven playoff teams: L.A. Lakers, Rockets, Mavericks, Spurs, Suns, Jazz and Hornets.
They all made it last year.
But that essentially leaves the same Western Conference playoff dynamic as a year ago. It will come down to whether or not the Warriors are better than Denver, Portland, and maybe the L.A. Clippers.
After seeing the Nuggets the other night (and I realize they were without Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess), there's no reason to believe the Warriors can't hang with them.
As for the Blazers, until there is any kind of certainty regarding Greg Oden, they shouldn't be out of the Warriors' reach.
The Clippers? Well, they don't look like much at all.
Sacramento? OK, even if the Kings do surprise shouldn't the Warriors be right there with them?
Point is this ... it's not going to take 48 wins to make the playoffs this year. The low-40s is going to get it done.
And that's not outside the realm of possibility for the low-expectation Warriors. Which is a challenge right up Don Nelson's alley.

As I watched Corey Maggette off to the side shooting at Warriors practice (he’s nicked up with a hamstring injury) I couldn’t help but wonder ...
Who will play more games this year: Maggette or Baron Davis?
What about over the next five years?
