Ocean View Trail
The appeal of the Ocean View and Canyon View Trails is self-evident. Both offer fine views of the Pacific Ocean and Zuma Canyon.
Located on the opposite side of Zuma Canyon as the Zuma Ridge Trail, the Ocean View and Canyon View Trails combine to form a 3-mile loop. Each trails weave up a hillside of coastal sage to the ridge-top Edison Fire Road. In the fall, the dry brush gives off a dormant feeling of anticipation. Come spring, the creek-bed will fill with water, reinvigorating the vegetation and attracting wildlife to Zuma Canyon.

Looking across Zuma Canyon
To complete the loop, leave from the Bonsall Trailhead and start up Zuma Canyon Trail. The first junction the trail crosses on the left is Ocean View Trail. The second is Canyon View Trail. Both junctions are well marked. Ocean View Trail is 1.1-miles long and Coastal View Trail is 1.3. This short loop sees much of Zuma Canyon and provides a bit of good exercise on the way up to rewarding ocean views. The trek is enjoyable in either direction. Simply decide which you would like to see first, ocean or canyon, and start hiking!
For more information on the trails in Zuma Canyon, read the National Park Service brochure.
To get to the trailhead: Take the PCH to Malibu and make a right on Bonsall Drive, one mile west of Kanan Dune Road (If you pass Zuma Beach, you have gone too far). Drive north on Bonsall Drive for one more mile to the dirt parking lot at the end of the road. The trail leaves from the northwest corner of the lot.
