Baking with kids does not mean that you are regulated to ice cream cake, brownies or chocolate chip cookies with M and M's, coconut, frosting, gummy bears, raisins and nuts. Ick! There are plenty of elegant desserts that kids can prepare that is just as quick and easy as dump cookies. A great dessert for kids to start with is baked apples in puff pastry with raspberry sauce. It is yummy, easy to prepare and best of all kids and adults love this dessert. Just follow these sample instructions:
Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
Peel, core and slice 2 granny smith apples and 1 gala apple.
Add about 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine to a saute pan and set on medium heat.
Add apples to the pan and sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon, tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt over the apples.
Add a teaspoon of lemon juice.
Turn apples until slightly soft.
Remove from heat.
Cut puff pastry sheets in half (making squares)
Spoon apple mixture into center of the pastry.
Gather four ends of the pastry to the center. Moisten center with water to seal.
Bake in the oven until pastry expands (about 25 minutes)
Remove from oven.
Melt ¼ cup of raspberry preserves in the microwave.
Pour raspberry preserves over puff pastry just before serving.
