Vegan Oatmeal cookies from Vegetarian Desserts Bakery

Now we can't eat raw cookie dough anymore! What's next....no licking of  the cake beaters. Well, actually no one should be eating raw food that is meant to eaten cooked. It is a wonder that more people do not become ill every year. Maybe they do become it, but the illness pass so quickly that it is not even mentioned outside of the home. Even though we know better, eating raw cookie dough and licking the cake beaters was and still is a ritual for most Baltimoreans.

I know that you do not want to hear this, but these are the reasons that one should never eat raw foods that are meant to be eaten cooked.

Microbiological Hazards

  • Bacteria- most likely to be found in commonly slaughtered livestock (cattle, sheep, and swine) and poultry (chicken and turkey)

  • Toxins - bacteria often found on carcasses (beef, pork, etc.)

  • Parasites - Parasitic worms mostly found in beef and pork.

The easiest way to cut your chances of becoming ill from food is to properly cook your food, wash you hands before every meal and prepare your own food.  You can also limit your meat and dairy intake. The less food you eat that can possibly carry microbiological hazards the better your chances of not becoming ill from your food.

People... if you want cookies then have cookies...just bake them first. Even better have vegan cookies!
