We continue our look at the All-Time All St. Louis football team today with a look at the grunts in the middle. The big guys who clog up the middle to stop the run and put pressure on the quarterback. This is the list of the best defensive tackles to ever put on a St. Louis uniform.
DEFENSIVE ENDS
First Team: D'Marco Farr
Although he was considered undersized for a defensive tackle, he overcame that deficiency with his speed and quickness that made him a force inside. D'Marco Farr was not only a good player but a fan favorite during his time with the Rams. Farr had 36.5 sacks in his time with the Rams and managed to come up with 3 interceptions and 3 fumbles recovered during his time in St. Louis. Farr had 11.5 sacks in the Rams first season in St. Louis in 1995. Injuries forced his career to come to an end earlier than he would have liked but he still is around the Rams on an everyday basis and will be the color commentator on Rams broadcasts this fall.
An anchor for the Cardinals in the middle of their defensive line Bob Rowe was a rugged defensive tackle that was a nine year starter in St. Louis. He played in an astounding 122 games while in St. Louis and did receive a Pro Bowl selection in the 1968 season. Stats for defensive players were not very accurate during his era but he was considered an excellent defensive lineman during that time.
SECOND TEAM
A second round draft pick for the Cardinals out of Florida in 1982 David Galloway had a really solid career in his time in St. Louis. Galloway played six seasons in St. Louis and had a nice nine year career. Galloway had 12 sacks during the 1983 season and wound up with 38 for his career.
Another old school selection on the defensive line. Sam Silas was a five year starter for the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1960's. What holds Silas with a special distinction is that he was one of only two defensive lineman to ever go to the Pro Bowl for a St. Louis franchise. It is interesting how football has changed. Silas was considered a "big" defensive tackled during his time at 6'4 255 lbs. That would be considered a tight end or even a quarterback in today's game.
Players who should be forgotten.....
Jimmy Kennedy: Big talent....no drive.
Damione Lewis: See above.
