President Barack Obama responded to the tragedy at Fort Hood in his weekly radio/internet address. The President was somber while speaking of American sacrifice:

"It was in this place, on a base where our soldiers ought to feel most safe, where those brave Americans who are preparing to risk their lives in defense of our nation, lost their lives in a crime against our nation."

President Obama urged Americans to remember the fallen and honor those who went to help the wounded. The President said he would continue to closely monitor the investigation.

Obama also said that “In tribute to those who fell at Ft. Hood, I’ve ordered flags flying over the White House, and other federal buildings to be lowered to half-staff from now until Veterans Day next Wednesday.”

As always, President Obama proves himself a gifted speaker. His remarks on American patriotism transcending religious ideology captures the true American spirit, and serves as a reminder to all what this great nation is all about.
