Solitude Mountain Resort officially kicked off the 2009-10 Utah ski season on Friday. On its first day, the ski area opened two lifts, Link and Moonbeam Express, servicing two beginner runs, Easy Street and Main Street.

The ski area reported a 16-inch base with 40 inches of natural snowfall so far this season. Snowmaking operations were also crucial to opening the available terrain.

The resort had opened the Link lift on Halloween for passholders only, but Friday was the area's first open day for the general public. The resort had moved up its originally scheduled opening date by a week. Neighboring Brighton Resort is the next Utah resort scheduled to open with a scheduled start on Nov. 11.
