Arapahoe Basin records 5 inches so far

Colorado's Arapahoe Basin Ski Area reported 5 inches of new snow in the previous 24 hours at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday. The early-season snowstorm is expected to bring much more snow to the Front Range before the system moves out Thursday night.

Just across the Continental Divide from Arapahoe Basin, Loveland Ski Area reported 4 inches of new snow as of Wednesday morning. Still the only two open Colorado ski areas, Loveland and Arapahoe Basin started operations in early October. The Oct. 7 start for Loveland was its earliest in 40 years and the Oct. 9 opening for Arapahoe Basin was the earliest in its history.

Storm could bring four feet of snow

For Loveland Pass, located between Loveland Ski Area and Arapahoe Basin, the National Weather Service predicts daytime snow accumulations for Wednesday of 6 to 10 inches. The winter storm warning suggests total snow accumulations for the weather system will range from 18 to 36 inches with up to 4 feet possible in favored upslope areas east of the Continental Divide.
