It's official. Four days after Adam Jones' brother leaked the news via myspace, MLB has officially announced that Jones has won his first Gold Glove.
Torii Hunter and Ichiro Suzuki each earned their 9th straight Gold Gloves. The door was opened for Jones because Indians CF Grady Sizemore's seasons was marred by injury.
Jones is the first Oriole to earn the coveted award since Mike "no rings" Mussina won in 1999.
Oddly, Jones' play in centerfield was suspect at times. He often played too shallow and had difficulty getting a good read on deep drives to dead center. Jones was only 2nd on the team in outfield assists, behind Nick Markakis.
Despite these drawbacks, Jones proved himself to be an up-and-coming outfielder with a lot of range. His '09 season was marked with accolades, including an appearance at the midsummer classic, where he hit the go ahead sac fly to help the American League defeat the hapless NL.
Congratulations, Adam Jones. 7 more Gold Gloves and you'll tie Paul Blair as the most acclaimed Orioles defensive outfielder of all time.
