It’s a slow news week for the Orioles and for MLB in general, but this article printed in the Thanksgiving edition of the New York Times sports section really highlights how quiet the hot stove season is right now.

The New York-based paper rarely covers the Orioles, though it is a nationally circulated publication. It would make sense to see an O’s story at the Times if there was a story to tell. The problem is that Thursday’s article is simply a retread of the Teixeira and Burnett situations.

Reporter Jack Curry offers no new insight. No new info on contract offers. No new player quotes. Just the typically measured statement from O’s President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail and a summary of the team’s rebuilding process.

An online columnist publishing from his couch in Highlandtown can write that story. If the New York Times is going to print such a non-story, couldn’t they at least have picked up the phone and called the players’ agents?

I guess there’s nothing new to say about A-Rod’s spirituality or the closing of Yankee Stadium.

As for Curry’s assertion that landing either Burnett or Teixeira is unlikely for the birds, again this is not new. I’m beginning to wonder, though, if a dark horse team may emerge in the Teixeira situation. Of the four teams often mentioned as Teixeira suitors, none seems an ideal match.

The Angels are moving on to the CC Sabathia sweepstakes. They seem to be backing out of the Teixeira conversation. The Red Sox have Kevin Youkilis, one of the best all-around first basemen in the game. The Yankees just signed Nick Swisher to play first. As Curry stated for the umpteen-millionth time, the Orioles are pretty early in the rebuilding process to drop $200 mil on one guy.

Might there be another home for Teix?
