Brasa's chocolate pound cake with strawberries

The return of summer in Minnesota tends to reignite our desire to be outside.  There is no better way to enjoy the outdoors than to indulge in a delicious meal followed by a scrumptious dessert on one of the many restaurant patios in the Twin Cities.  Brasa Premium Rotisserie, located at 600 E. Hennepin in Minneapolis, is one of those "worth the drive" destination spots.  The pulled chicken sandwich with smoked pepper sauce and Brasa cabbage as well as the roasted pork sandwich with ginger mayo and sliced onions both land high on our craving scale.  They were amazingly tender and were flavored with the perfect combination of Creole spices.  These are just two of the many appetizing menu choices. There are several great options for dessert as well.  The chocolate pound cake was delectable and the addition of sliced strawberries and whipped cream added just the right amount of freshness and symmetry to the richness of this dessert.  Other desserts included: Butterscotch pudding with whipped cream and a shortbread cookie, a flaky pastry and chocolate turnover with a sour cherry compote, an apple and olive oil streusel cake with dulce de leche sauce, and a white birthday cake with buttercream frosting.  Chef Alex Roberts is at the helm of Brasa and has been nominated for a James Beard Award in 2007, 2008 and 2009 for best chef in the Midwest.  Chef Roberts focuses on the use of fresh, local and sustainable products at Brasa and Restaurant Alma, another of his extraordinary eateries located on University Avenue in Minneapolis.  Brasa also serves beer and wine as well as lemonade, canned sweetened sodas, Mexican Coca-Cola and organic coffee or hot tea.  Head to Brasa for a mouthwatering meal but make certain to save room for dessert.
