On November 6th, 7th and 8th, Oklahoma climbers will join together for a rendezvous at the Quartz Fall Gathering to catch up with old climbing partners and make new ones! The Gathering will take place at Quartz Mountain Nature Park in southwest Oklahoma. Located 17 miles north of Altus and 45 minutes west of the Wichita Mountains, Quartz boasts the longest rock climbing routes in Oklahoma. Most routes were set in the late 70's by climbers such as Oklahoma native Duane Raleigh (co-owner and publisher of Rock and Ice magazine), and fellow Oklahomans Terry Andrews, Jon Franks, Jimmy Ratzlaff, and Bill Thomas. Over 100 routes on granite slab, run-out pitches, and plenty of challenging face climbs make Quartz a classic by any climber's standards.
If you're interested in taking part in this weekend of climbing and camaraderie, 5 camping areas with over 200 campsites (some primitive, some with hook-ups) and 4 comfort stations are available for overnight stays. No reservations are accepted. For questions about camping fees, call (580) 563-2238.
