Hoping to shed light on the sex trafficking of children locally and around the world, nine Christian musicians will perform a free benefit concert Friday night in the Sacramento area.

The concert at Adventure Christian Church in Roseville, Calif. will directly benefit the efforts to build Courage House, a Northern California home for children rescued out of sex trafficking.

The wide assortment of musicians, who range from local alternative rock bands to a rapper from Kenya, have written songs specifically for the CD, Believe in Me, which benefits Courage House, a project founded by Courage to Be You, a non-profit Christian organization.

In addition to live music, the benefit will feature presentations by the FBI, International Justice Mission (IJM), and a family personally affected by sex trafficking.

An estimated 293,000 American youth are currently at risk of becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Despite this high number, only three rescue homes exist in the country.

In the last two-and-a-half years, over 120 girls have been rescued from sex trafficking in Sacramento alone, said Jenny Williamson, founder of Courage to Be You. The average age of these "rescued" girls is 14 years old.

"The only good option for placement right now is juvenile hall since there is no safe home with specific treatment and therapy for these kids," said Williamson. "There is nothing in Northern California, and Sacramento is one of the top 15 cities for the trafficking of minors."

To remedy this, Courage to Be You has made an offer on 50 acres of land in a rural area outside of Sacramento. "It will be a safe house for these kids," said Williamson.

Currently, Courage to Be You has raised $350,000 of the total $1,120,000 offer. They hope that Friday's concert, which will include a "love offering," will bring them one step closer to the total amount, which must be raised by Dec. 7.
