Watch out Bill Compton and Edward Cullen, there's a new hot vampire in town.
"Lost" alum Ian Somerhalder joins the fraternity of TV/movie vampires with the CW's "Vampire Diaries." Ian will play Damon, and in typical Ian typecasting, he will be smug and dangerous.
"Vampire Diaries" is based on a set of novels similar to the "Twilight" series. Its premise is quite similar to "Twilight" -- A girl falls for a vampire or two and they fight for her soul. Interestingly enough, though, is the "Vampire Diaries" books predate "Twilight," so no one can say the new show is ripping off anything.
Kevin Williamson ("Dawson's Creek," "Scream") will pen and co-produce the new show.
Also joining the cast are Paul Wesley ("Everwood") as Damon's 200-year-old brother Stefan, and Nina Dobrev ("Degrassi: The Next Generation") as Elena, the girl torn between the bloodsucking brothers.
The air date has not been announced.
