New York Aquarium

The New York Aquarium at world famous Coney Island is enjoying it's annual Halloween celebration. The aquarium offers educational entertainment at bargain prices. This Halloween the event is dubbed "Ascarium".

The Ascarium event is a great way to start off or end your Halloween weekend. It is a family friendly event and special events have been arranged for the little ones. The aquarium encourages families to dress up in their Halloween costumes .

Arts, crafts, games, prizes and exhibits are part of the fun. The aquarium's website lists a special Halloween bargain; any child ages 3 to 12 wearing a wearing a wildlife costume will receive a free general admission ticket when accompanied by an adult purchasing any full-priced adult admission ticket. There is a limit of one free child per paying adult. All activities take place between noon and 4:00 p.m.

Ascarium events on Halloween weekend:

• Haunted Sea-fari Perils of the Sea:

The aquarium's version of a haunted house. "Travel through murky waters and pass by extinct sea life tombs, jellyfish tentacles, and other creatures of the deep as you make your way to dry land. At the end of your journey, you’ll have a better understanding of the threats facing the ocean’s extraordinary animals." the aquarium advertises.

• Pumpkin carving demonstrations and story telling.
• Music and dance to kid-friendly, marine and Halloween-themed tunes by DJ Dave.
• Crafts. Use recycled materials to create a mask or make a sea creature costume.
• Trick or treat at the Ascarium treat stations.
• New 4-D movie:
  

The Curse of Skull Rock is a family friendly 4-D animated adventure. A fun pirate adventure featuring an adventurous cabin girl and an evil sea Captain as they pursue a lost treasure. Lots of special effects. Screening in the 4-D theater at the aquarium. 

You will also want to see the main attractions. The aquarium describes the main event, "...penguins, sea otters, and walruses work with their trainers during daily feeding demonstrations. Meet Osborn, Duke, Nav and Diego during Sea Lion Celebrations at the Aquatheater. Socialize with sea life and get your fingers wet at our Touch Pool."

The New York Aquarium is located on the boardwalk at Coney Island at Surf Avenue and 8th Street. Weekend hours and holidays are 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Halloween weekend adult admission is $13, seniors are $10, children (3 to 12 yrs.) are $9 w/out costume or one free child with one paying adult FREE if the child is wearing a wildlife costume.  Check the aquarium website for year round activities, hours and rates.
