Actress/singer and author Julie Andrews and her daughter, educator and best-selling children's book author Emma Walton Hamilton, will sign their latest joint children's book, Julie Andrews' Collection of Poems, Songs, and Lullabies, at 5 PM, Friday, November 20, 2009, at Children's Book World in Haverford.

Mother and daughter hand-selected the entries for this book which includes works by Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Jack Prelutsky, Shel Silverstein, Rodgers & Hammerstein and others. Many of the poems, read by Andrews and/or Hamilton, are included in an audio CD that accompanies the book.

Poetry is a wonderful way to help kids appreciate the beauty and power of language"

said Emma Walton Hamilton in a recent TV interview.

Julie Andrews' Collection of Poems, Songs, and Lullabies is illustrated by acclaimed New York illustrator and poster designer James McMullan.

Because of the popularity of Julie Andrews, the publisher, Little, Brown and Company Books for Young Readers, has set strict rules for the signing. These include no photographs, no personalization of books, no signing of other books or memorabilia, the signing of only one book per person, and only the signing of books purchased at the signing venue.

The complete rules, as they appear on the Children's Book World web page, are as follows:

  • Children's Book World will begin selling books on Monday, October 26th, at 9:30 am. You must come in person to purchase your book or pay over the phone. No email purchases will be made. No books will be sold prior to Monday, October 26th.
  • There will be a limited number of books sold.
  • You must be present on the day of the signing, Friday, November 20th, to have your book signed.
  • Julie and Emma will only sign ONE (1) book per family.
  • When you purchase a book, you will receive a confirmation number. This ensures a copy will be held for you. Please keep this number in a safe place; this number will be used when we distribute sold books on Friday, November 20th.
  • No books will be distributed until the day of the signing.
  • Your confirmation number is not your place in line. On Friday, November 20th, places in line will be first come, first served.
  • No personalization will be made.
  • No photographs allowed: cameras, cell phones, video cameras, etc.
  • No signing of any other books or memorabilia.
  • Only books purchased through Children's Book World (with confirmation numbers) will be signed.
  • Due to publishers' restrictions, no exceptions to any of the above guidelines will be made.
