The Minneapolis Institute of Arts hosts the largest encyclopedic collection of art in the Midwest and is Minnesota's largest arts educator.  The MIA's collection includes around 80,000 objects from all continents that represent the past 5,000 years.  General admission is free ($5 suggested donation), and the museum hosts rotating paid exhibitions.

Walker Art Center is known for their immaculate collection of contemporary art and new media.  The Walker also hosts a vast calendar of avant-garde performances, dance, music, film and other special events.  Admission is free for members  or $10 for the public ($8 for seniors, $6 for students).   The Walker's Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is home to 11 acres of sculpture, gardens, architecture, and alternative performance spaces overlooking the beautiful Minneapolis skyline.  Admission to the Sculpture Garden is free.

The Russian Museum of Art, located in South Minneapolis, is the only museum in North America dedicated to the presentation and preservation of Russian art and artifacts.  Admission is $5, or free for members.

Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum is easily recognized by its stainless steel building, designed by Frank Gehry, on the University of Minnesota campus.  WAM's collection is comprised of 20th century and contemporary art.  Admission is free.
