One of Minnesota's best kept secrets is the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona.  Set in on the river in Southeastern Minnesota's beautiful rolling bluffs, MMAM filled with artistic and historic treasures.  This museum makes the perfect destination for a quick day trip.

The museum currently has shows on display that include the Burrichter-Kierlin Marine Art Collection, Art of the Canoe, By Sun and Stars: How Early Navigators Found their Way, and On the Banks of the Mississippi: Photographs by Henry Peter Bosse and Folk Art from Leo and Marilyn Smith.

Art of the Canoe is on display until August 22nd and features hand-built canoes, art and other artifacts from Linda and Mike Cichanowski,  We-no-nah Canoe Company, Joe Seliga, Whiskeyjack Paddles, and many others.

New gallery of Impressionist and Hudson River School works

MMAM's new extensive Hudson River and Impressionist galleries opened in the beginning of May.  These galleries host the Burrichter-Kierlin Marine Art Collection.  Currently on loan to MMAM, it is one of the largest collections of marine art in the country.  The collection boasts an extensive catalogue of paintings by Claude Monet, Camille Pissaro, Winslow Homer, Jean-Baptiste Camille Carot, Paul Signac, William Bradford, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Cole, and many more.  Several recently acquired paintings are on display for the first time, and a couple of paintings were loaned to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for their recent Noble Dreams and Simple Pleasures, an exhibition of Minnesota masterworks.

Admission to the MMAM is $6 for adults/$3 for students.  Individual Museum membership start at only $40 ($25 for students) and includes free admission to MMAM, the Walker Art Center and Rochester Art Center, invitations to special events, and discounts at the MMAM.
