As an artist, getting funding to to produce new work is a challenging task.  Especially in this economic environment, grants are increasingly difficult to attain.  With hundreds of applicants to choose from, panels select applicants with a strong body of work, a clear vision, and many other variables.  Thankfully, there are many resources to help artists write the best proposals.

Springboard for the Arts is an organization based in St. Paul that is dedicated to helping arts organizations and artists of all kinds with a variety of aspects in their careers.  Springboard hosts workshops throughout the year on developing a  variety of business skills.  This week there are seminars on creating digital images of non-digital media, pricing your work, and free health screenings.  Click Here for more info on these events and more of Springboard's services.

MN State Arts Board features grant opportunities, deadlines calendar, helpful publications, and links to regional arts councils on their website.  Another valuable tool on their site is the Basic Guide to Grants for Minnesota Artists.  For information helpful for both individual artists and arts organizations on the MN State Arts Board website, click here.

Foundation Center is one of the largest online grant sites.  The Foundation Center offers tools and resources for individual grant-seekers and non-profit organizations across disciplines.  They have informative newsletters containing upcoming RFPs and national job openings, and they host a variety of online webinars and live training sessions in various locations around the country.

Jerome Foundation and McKnight Foundation provide a variety of grants and fellowships to artists and arts organizations.  The Jerome Foundation provides support for artists practicing in a wide range of media and non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting emerging artists in Minnesota and the five boroughs of New York City.  The McKnight Foundation seeks to provide artists with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. The McKnight Fellowship program is highly prestigious and very competitive.  Both Jerome Foundation and McKnight Foundation offer information sessions before grant and fellowship application deadlines.  Check out their websites for details.
