Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion

Animal Collective - "Merriweather Post Pavilion" (vinyl LP) - The ninth studio album by critically-acclaimed experimental Baltimore band is released today on vinyl, to be followed by a January 20 CD release. The vinyl release includes a digital download. The album has created a great deal of buzz and garnered rave reviews since it leaked online in December.

The Gourds - "Haymaker!" - Austin alternative country band The Gourds have been around since 1994, and today release this, their ninth record.

Glasvegas - "Glasvegas" - Released in the band's home country last year, this U.S. release of the debut album by British band Glasvegas features two bonus tracks. The band has been described as playing wall of sound rock influenced by Phil Spector and Jesus and Mary Chain.

Local indie releases:

Office - "Mecca" - Done with their stint on Scratchie/New Line Records, which produced the 2007 LP "A Night at the Ritz," Chicago indie pop favorites Office have now released their next record, "Mecca." And it's free! You can download the album in its entirety at last.fm here.

Kid, You'll Move Mountains - "Loomings" - This Chicago indie pop band celebrated the release of their debut record, "Loomings," last Friday at Metro. Keep an eye out for the record on CD Baby and iTunes, and check out this interview with the band's Jim Hanke done by local indie podcast Indiesomnia.

tenniscourts - "Dig the New Sounds of tenniscourts" - tenniscourts play superb power pop with more hooks than you could hope for. If you need proof, check out "Swimming Pool," currently up on the band's MySpace site. Pick up the CD on CDBaby.com, NotLame.com, KoolKatMusic.com, or in person at the band's CD release show on Friday, January 9 at Reggie's.
