Pitchfork and Lollapalooza are over, but if you still haven't had your fill of summer music festivals you can keep the fun going at West Fest this weekend. The annual fest takes place in West Town on Chicago Ave. between Damen Ave. and Wood St., and features plenty of live music - with a heavy focus on local acts - on both Saturday and Sunday. Here's who's set to play:
Saturday, August 9
The Redwalls (8:30 p.m.) - One of the most high-profile bands to come out of Chicago in the last few years, the Redwalls play catchy garage rock with strong 60s influences.
Catfish Haven (7 p.m.) - Catfish Haven is another local act that has garnered a lot of attention, in this case through their hybrid of indie rock and soul.
Sybris (5:45 p.m.) - Sybris is rooted in 90s alternative rock and features the full-on vocals of Angela Mullenhour.
Also...
Mannequin Men (4:30 p.m.)
Havana (3:15 p.m.)
Dorian Taj (2 p.m.)
For Pilots (12:45 p.m.)
Sunday, August 10
Meat Puppets (8:30 p.m.) - Alternative rockers the Meat Puppets formed in 1980 as a punk band and evolved over the years to include psychedelic and country sounds. The band reformed in 2006 after a four-year hiatus.
Office (7 p.m.) - Hot off the heels of a performance at this year's Lollapalooza, Chicago's Scott Masson and company will bring their hooky indie pop to West Town fest-goers. If you missed the Lollapalooza set, here's the perfect opportunity to see them.
Bound Stems (5:45 p.m.) - These locals are often described as playing indie rock with math-rock influences, and they released their second LP, "The Family Afloat," last month.
