Ryan Leaf, former NFL quarterback with the San Diego Chargers was picked up by customs agents when he crossed the border from Canada into the United States on Wednesday. A warrant for his arrest had been issued in Texas in May so the fact that he is in custody isn't a surprise to Leaf.
His attorney, Bill Kelly told media that his client was on his way back into the U.S. to turn himself in. He posted bond during an extradition hearing and will return to Texas on his own.
In May he was indicted by a grand jury for burglary to a habitation (home), a felony and multiple counts of obtaining controlled substances in a fraudulent manner. At the time of the activity he is charged with he was the quarterbacks coach at West Texas A&M. He resigned that position after having been put on administrative leave by the university. He had reportedly asked a student/athlete for pain killers to deal with a nagging wrist injury.
When he was indicted it had been reported that Leaf, troubled with drug problems for a long while, was in a rehabilitation facility in British Columbia.
