Former NBA ref, Tim Donaghy is about to be released to a half-way house to complete his criminal sentence. News of his release and details about his prison stay were included in a press release.
Donaghy spent time in a Pensacola Florida prison and according to Executive Prison Consultants, a company that counsels those spending time or about to spend time in federal prisons, he ran afoul of some New York mob types.
The company's press release reported that he was threatened with knee-capping, I kid you not. And it sounds like someone tried very hard to live up to the threats. Donaghy will require surgery according to the press release and oh yeah, Deadspin.com posted a report that he's planning a tell-all book. Just what NBA Commissioner David Stern wants to hear on the eve of the sport's off-season.
And then we wonder why Plaxico Burress is fighting so hard to avoid doing time? His attorney has been unable to get the district attorney's office in Manhattan to accept a plea from the wide receiver that doesn't include incarceration.
At this juncture, the best that it appears Burress will get is a delay of his trial date until after the 2009-2010 season. That way he can play ball again and stash away some cash to keep his family afloat if he does have to go away.
What Burress would more than likely face in jail is somebody looking to make a name for himself by getting to a celebrity like him. Speculation about the attack on Donaghy centers on what he might have told the feds while he cooperated with them to get a reduced sentence.
What's that recent quote from the Cavaliers' Delonte West? Oh yeah, "only snitches get stitches." See video below
