Was the night of drinking indulged in by Zach Randolph a celebration or a way to cosmetize his misery?
The Clippers are the second worst team in the NBA with a mere 18 wins this season. I've written about their trials and tribulations as well as their screwed up management.
But with only one first-string player absent from the team's lineup on Sunday during the game against the Lakers, they almost beat the Western Conference leaders.
Granted the Lakers played down to their competition and looked sluggish and lazy. But the Clips had a shot to tie it with a bit more than five seconds left on the clock.
There was a feeling in the locker room and expressed by coach and GM, Mike Dunleavy that the team should be proud of its effort with nothing left to play for but their pride.
Zach Randolph had a good game with 18 points and 10 rebounds. I guess the feelings of euphoria overwhelmed him because he was arrested at 2:30 am local time on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He has been suspended for two games as a result of his arrest.
Two things come to mind: 1) With fewer than five games left, was he just celebrating the end of a horrible season or, 2) was he so happy the game wasn't the usual ugly, poor effort we've seen all season from the Clips?
Either way, this just puts the period on the end of the sentence for the team. Injuries, internal strife, bad coaching and playing have been the hallmarks of the team's season. And now this. Have a good summer guys.
