If the Yankees win tonight's game 5 of the ALCS, they'll advance to the World Series against the Phillies who beat the Dodgers last night in game 5 of the NLCS.

But wait, no I mean literally wait. The first game of the World Series will not take place until Wednesday October 28th, six days from today. There is no flexible schedule that would allow it to start this weekend if both league championships are concluded today.

And if as is expected, New York and Philadelphia will be the participants we can only imagine the cold and inclement weather possibilities.

Remember the first two games of the ALCS? Many observers, including me, believe that the weather negatively affected the Angels players more than their Yankee counterparts.

Last Sunday in the middle of October, the NFL game between the Patriots and Tennessee Titans was played in snow and slush in Foxboro, Massachusetts. That is what you can get in the Northeast during autumn. It's not surprising, it's just hard to watch or play in.

And what about all the good buzz among fans and media? Why give all that up and put the concluding series on hold for six long days? MLB is impossibly intransigent about many things like its resistance to instant replay and limiting the time between pitches.

But messing with the ratings by giving fans six days to forget about how much fun this post-season has been is a mistake. Despite the late hour at which most of the games end, the ratings have been good and have increased since last year's division and league championships series.

Add that to the miserable weather that will inevitably intrude on a game or two and you've got a mess. Anybody here with me?
