Lamar Odom took more than a month to agree to a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
And that was with him acknowledging he didn't want to go elsewhere. He listened to two other teams' offers despite reports that the Lakers initial offer was withdrawn and then lowered. He was willing to roll the dice.
At the press conference to announce his return, he said his posturing was merely "bluffing". He also said he never took anything personally and hoped the Lakers didn't either. "It was just negotiating", he told media in attendance. He was fearless in the face of what others fretted would result in him leaving Los Angeles.
Roll the tape forward to present day. TMZ.com reports this tidbit from its sources close to the couple: Lamar is insisting that Khloe have no rights to his salary from the Lakers. He is said to have offered to give his new bride what amounts to a yearly allowance that won't change no matter how long the marriage lasts.
As most old-school gentleman do, he wants to support the Odom-Kardashian household and will do so in addition to Khloe's yearly stipend.
Here's what I have to say to Khloe. Look at the Lakers negotiations for a hint of what kind of man you're up against. He's willing to take his time until it feels comfortable.
Media members haven't gotten to the bottom of why he seemingly is working for less than the Lakers offered in the early stages of the contract talks. Maybe that's why he wants "hands-off" on his Lakers dough.
TMZ's latest news on the subject indicates that Khloe is agreeing to this arrangement. Good thing since when it comes to negotiating, Lamar treats it like the business it is.
