As we watch the last match at Wimbledon, virtually ignore Tiger Woods' tournament in DC because he isn't there and wonder if the Yanks/Sox will be relevant again any time soon, thoughts turn to fantasy football.
And why not? Training camps open in 3 weeks and player rankings are being published everywhere. Have you taken a gander at some? Come on now, if you play fantasy football you know you've been bored enough lately to at least check them out.
Here's what strikes me right away when reading a mixed position 1-100 poll: Ryan Grant is a first round prospect in the RB category, Tony Romo has entered the 1st tier of QB's along with Brady and Manning and Reggie Wayne is now the man if you want an Indy wide receiver.
Draft kit advice comes replete with the stats on how the best performing quarterbacks one year tend to melt the following year. It's hard to think that will happen to Brady but if history is an indicator, you might not automatically win all your head to head matches with him in the lineup this year.
As usual there is a lot of advice for those whose draft positions are less than ideal but the traditional draft technique of taking your running backs first still seems to be the consensus choice.
I like to look at the lineups of those in my league's Super Bowl and realize they were made up of a hodge podge of dependable veterans (LT) some guys on hot streaks (Wes Welker) and players who had break out seasons like Derek Anderson.
Let the fantasies begin and one bit of advice: draft as close to the first game of the season as you can. Last minute injuries and suspensions are always lurking.
