Psst....did you hear the news? Brett Favre is miserable and undecided about whether to return to football this season. What is this, a rerun of a rerun? Wasn't this the same story we discussed for the last 2 seasons that ended with him dragging his body back to Green Bay? Only now it's a bit different.

He made a big splash about retiring with the crying and sniffling and all. The retrospectives on his career sounded like obituaries and the news blotted out all else on the sports wire for 2 days at least. Even his wife said they had decided not to even have anything to do with Green Bay charities for a while, at least a year. I went on record at the time as saying that if his wife said so then he wasn't coming back.

She holds a lot of cards in that household what with her decision to stick with him while he was a substance abuser. Her cancer scare gave her even more status in the hierarchy of the family. But I guess she and the kids might have gotten sick of him already since he apparently doesn't have any other plan for his life.

Aaron Rodgers went on air with Jim Rome last week and said that he was the quarterback of his team. It seemed that Mike McCarthy, the head coach, and the GM Ted Thompson were of that opinion as well. We learned that during the big retirement road show. Will the city of Green Bay throw their weight behind yet another season of Favre? Seems so but whether that carries the day with management is questionable.

Stay tuned since as you well know, this story not only has legs, it is a virtual centipede.

For more info: Green Bay's site still has the retirement speech posted.
