Over 24 hours after it was first reported the White Sox and Royals agreed to trade Josh Fields and Chris Getz for Mark Teahen, the deal has been confirmed.
Apparently, the hold-up was over money—which the White Sox will be receiving from the Royals in the deal. That's good—Teahen's due for a raise in arbitration this year.
Here's a link to my analysis of the trade from yesterday.
Joe Cowley tweeted this quote from Getz:
"No hard feelings. I can speculate on why they traded me, but that could be endless thinking. I don't need to go there.''
And this note:
KW explained to Getz that they needed to "shuffle things up.'' According to Getz, he didn't ask his former GM to explain why he was moved.
I haven't read anything pretaining to where Teahen will be expected to play next year yet. I'll pass that along if I come across it in the future.
Man, there's a ton of news to comment on today. The big one right now: talks with Scott Podsednik have broken down, according to Kenny Williams:
[MERKIN]: Williams on Podsednik dialogue: "I think that is not likely based on what he wants, so we will keep getting after it in other areas."
[COWLEY]: More on Pods from KW ".... It’s not likely based on what he wants so we’ll have to look elsewhere.’’
There's some good in this, if you ask me. He was good in 2009, but his chance to repeat that '09 performance is pretty low for next year. Injuries and regression along with sub-par defense are a toxic combination, and that's what I see from Podsednik in 2010.
