Regardless of what type of fitness activity (if any) they enjoyed before expecting, many Chicago area moms-to-be are turning to prenatal yoga for a way to stay mellow and in shape during pregnancy.
In addition to keeping weight gain low and the mood elevated, prenatal yoga strengthens the pelvic floor and back, helps soothe aches and pains and teaches deep breathing, an important tool for labor.
If you've recently given birth and are looking for an activity you and your little one can both enjoy, mommy/daddy and baby yoga is a great way to bond with your child.
Lots of studios in Chicago offer prenatal yoga and baby & me yoga classes, but Lincoln Square's Bloom Yoga Studio takes the cake when it comes to a mama-friendly atmosphere.
Bloom has weekly prenatal, baby & me and kiddie yoga classes; offers birthing and parenting workshops and even hosts new mommy meet-up groups.
Here are a few other places around the city for prenatal classes.
Beverly Yoga- BYC has a ton of classes for little South Siders and moms-to-be.
Yoga Now- Both the Gold Coast and Edgewater Yoga Now locations offer prenatal and kids yoga workshops.
Bubbles Academy- This center offers creative movement, language, music, art and imagination classes for infants through ages 5. In addition to kids yoga, they also offer mom and baby yoga and family yoga.
Generations Yoga- Generations Yoga in Wilmette often runs a 6-week prenatal series and also has childcare.
Spanda Yoga Center- This Ukrainian Village studio is nice and small, meaning you'll surely get personal attention and possibly grow a bond with the other expecting mothers.
