A very updated Black/jean combo.  Thanks Shopbop

As an Image and Style Consultant, I am often faced with challenges of how to think outside of the box when options are limited. And if you know me, I love to solve a fashion conundrum. Well recently, a writing colleague of mine, Ricklyn from the LB Post, brought a social fashion situation to my attention. It’s one of those things we women are all guilty of. Because, well frankly, it’s just easy! Black tops and jeans. How boring and uncreative! There I said it. And yes, I too, with all my fashion savvy have had tendencies to go with the uncomplicated. When you are running late to cocktails with your ladies or even a date, it truly is the best go-to option that is non-fussy, easy to pick out and adds a touch of slim to your look.

Whether it’s your fav flare jeans or your fav skinny jeans. Whether it’s a simple black rib tank or a ruffled chiffon blouse. There is something so easy but so so repetitive about this look in all of its options. And even with all of us unique women out there with our difference of opinions, lifestyles and fashion preferences, we still all resort to this same concept. Black tops and jeans.

In light of this fashion issue, here are some helpful ideas that are also easy, if we only just try!

1)  Grab a dress instead. One of those things, like, “why didn’t I think of that?!” But having a go to dress is always a helpful way out of the black and jean doldrums. Think the dress is too fancy for your lunch? Wear it with flats. Think you dress is not fancy enough for your date? Wear heels and a flower clip in your hair. Easy.
2)  Keep the jeans, change the blouse. As we all know, sometimes our jeans are like our security blankets. So stay with the jeans if it helps you bring confidence from within. And since your jeans give you that spring in your step, any blouse of any color can look fabulous! In the heat of summer, white, ivory, cream, mocha and Nude are always great choices. Not only do these colors have an airiness to them, but they also make you look tanner!
3)  Pile on the accessories. If you must stick to your black and jeans, then please spend at least a couple minutes on your accessories. Because you can get very playful with color to update that boring black/jean combo. Stand out by throwing on a neon chunky necklace or rows of turquoise and coral bangles. And of course, my favorite... colored shoes! Flats or heels, wearing a fun colored shoe makes you smile, which is the ultimate accessory.

So when you are heading into your closet, a little bit pressed for time, (the story of my life), remember these easy updates so you can stand out in the fashion sea of black and jean. From your Editor-in-Chic....I”ll see you on the streets.
