Happy Feet in Sam Edelman - Gigi

I had a revelation the other day. Having taken a recent sabbatical from shoe shopping I reluctantly walked through the shoe department at Bloomingdale’s in Century City. Why? Because well, those shoes call my name. I hear in a winded whisper, “Laurie, come try me on.... look at how chic I am... wedged platform and ankle wraps... come on....just take a seat... my size 6 is available and wants to meet you....” And so what happens? I walk up to the shoes, introduce myself, fall in love, and the rest is history! And let me tell you, it feels A-MAZ-ING. And it occurred me... Happy feet, happy me!

Well on this particular day, I did happen to be in the market for a pair of shoes. For once they were not platforms. This is Los Angeles, the city of year round chic flat sandals! (Jealous, New Yorkers? Yeah, I know.) There were amazing sandals on every table and in every brand! What to choose? Where to start?

Most prominent were the glorious gladiators. Ranging from T-strapped to ankle wrapped, to gold studded and fringed, jeweled and even tasseled too. But what really caught my eye and is a fantastic update from last year’s sandals were the bright colors! (and yes, I snagged myself a pair!) If you haven’t been following the fashion forecasts, bright color ranging from purples, oranges, yellows, and greens are huge for Spring 2009. For people who are afraid of wearing color this is a great way to update your wardrobe for the upcoming season! For those already ahead of the game, Great job! Can’t wait to compare our colorful shoes on the streets.

So if you are in the market and ready for some happy feet here are a couple tips before you go.

1) Go for color! Choose a color that is not only right for your skin tone but also is a color what works well with your current wardrobe.

2) Shape and style work best from individual to individual. If you are short, avoid high ankle straps, they will make your legs look shorter. If you have wide feet, try diagonal strappy sandals that will help distract from the width of your foot.

3) Happy toes, happy feet, happy you! GO GET A PEDICURE FIRST!

So, treat your feet. Go get pedicures, go get colored sandals and I’ll see you on the streets!
