I don’t know about you, but when it comes to weight loss I will try anything and everything before I go back to the tried-and-true, age-old plan of diet and exercise. I long for a shortcut to results and you name it I’ve tried it, from apple cider vinegar before meals to Hydroxycut and Dexatrim, from ‘magical’ herbal teas to ‘miraculous’ powder supplements. I know none of them worked, yet I wait with baited breath for the magic substance that will make my body look like Elle Macpherson’s but allow me to eat like Roseanne Barr. It must be out there somewhere and I’m a sucker for believing that the current fad might be ‘it’—the holy grail of weight loss.
 
However, right now, with those stubborn 10 pounds my hips keep haning onto, I am afraid that once again I have to admit defeat. It’s salads, cardio and Pilates from hereon out. It’s not magic, but it works. 
 
To discover how I can stay motivated and on track with my current regimen, I sought the advice of astrologer, Dabney Oliver, who believes the answer to all our problems is written in the stars and our weightloss plan is no exception. While all us Aquarians need is the latest and greatest gear to keep it interesting (any excuse to hit the shops), you Cancer kids like nothing more than an at-home workout. So now, all you have to do to achieve success is understand what your sign says about you… and stick to it!

Aries :: The Ram :: March 21 – April 20
Aries are the natural athletes of the zodiac. Competitive sports offer an excellent outlet for you to tap into your inner warrior. You excel at boxing and martial arts because they let you work up a sweat while feeling like a bad-ass. You will achieve better results by putting the greater emphasis on your exercise regimen, rather than your diet. Work out like an athlete and you should be able to eat like one as well.
 
Taurus :: The Bull :: April 21 – May 20
It is vital that you reward yourself for exercising and sticking to your diet. For every five pounds you drop buy yourself a new outfit. Comfort-loving Taureans don’t tend to enjoy the process of losing weight—but you definitely love the results. Fitting into a size two Marc Jacobs dress will be incentive enough. If you are more of the earthy Taurus than the material girl, take your workouts into nature. Go for a hike or hop on a mountain bike to enjoy the great outdoors. It won’t even feel like a workout and will be so rejuvenating.
 
Gemini :: The Twins :: May 21 - June 20
As a Gemini you need lots of variety—so mix up your workouts. Play tennis on Sunday, try Pilates on Monday and pump iron on Tuesday. Reading up on getting fit will provide extra motivation. Use success stories in fitness magazines as your inspiration to get up and get moving. When it comes to dieting you do best with programs that offer you flexibility like the Weight Watchers point system.
 
Cancer :: The Crab :: June 21 - July 22
You prefer workout videos you can do at home. It doesn’t matter if you prefer Tae-bo, Winsor Pilates or the hard-core P90X series—you are one of the few signs in the zodiac that can actually stick to a home-based program. When it comes to dieting it is vital that you get your family involved. If your loved ones are not participating or supporting your healthy eating habits it will be difficult for you to lose those extra pounds.
 
Leo :: The Lion :: July 23 - August 22
Leos need to express themselves and have fun with their exercise routine. Dance classes are an outstanding way for you get your body moving—salsa, hip hop—heck, even pole dancing—all offer calorie-burning benefits. When it comes to dieting, work hard on your healthy eating habits during the week so you can let go on the weekends.
           
Virgo :: The Virgin :: August 23 - September 22
Virgos are highly disciplined and thrive with a tight regimen. Write down your goals, your exercise plan and everything you eat. Hiring a personal trainer is also highly beneficial for Virgos wanting to make sure they are doing everything the “proper” way. Diets such as South Beach that clearly outline what you can and can’t eat are perfect for rule-abiding Virgos.
 
Libra :: The Scales :: September 23 - October 22
The best way to keep true to your weight-loss goals is to enlist the help of a friend. A workout partner will make the experience more fun, while you push and support one another. When it comes to eating it is important that you find a balanced diet—nothing too extreme. Libras notoriously have a hard time with decisions so a diet that doesn’t offer too many options—such as a home delivery diet service will work best for you.
 
Scorpio :: The Scorpion :: October 23 - November 21
Scorpios need to push themselves to their limits. You only see progress by taking it to the extreme and testing your outer limits. Training for a marathon or triathlon will do wonders for your weight-loss ambitions. Scorpios are also big fans of the detox diet—just make sure that when you are “detoxifying” you are not just starving yourself.
 
Sagittarius :: The Archer :: November 22 - December 21
You need to bring fun to your athleticism and enjoy classes like spin or kick-boxing. Mix-up your exercise routine by jogging in the park one day with friends followed by a mid-week cardio or toning class and then round out the weekend with some nice leisurely horse riding. Of course, true to form, archery is always a favorite exercise of the true Sagittarian. When it comes to diet try to avoid too much sugar and caffeine as you naturally come with a lot of energy—you don’t need to put it into overdrive.
 
Capricorn :: The Goat :: December 22 - January 19
Capricorns like to feel competent and strong at any task they chose to master. It is important to you that you gain the respect of your peers. Weight training and running are excellent activities for Capricorns as they allow you to get into “the zone.” These are two proven, practical forms of exercise that get you the kind of ambitious results you seek. When it comes to diet, moderation and portion control are key. Diets like Jenny Craig, which are straight-forward and goal-oriented, will work well for you.
 
Aquarius :: The Water Bearer :: January 20 – February 18
Aquarian exercisers like being the early adopters of fitness gadgets and technology. Having gear like a heart rate monitor with calorie counter, or the latest and greatest Nike’s with state-of-the-art soles, will make working out more fun for you. You may also enjoy downloading workouts for your iPod from sites like Podfitness where you get to work out with a trainer through the magic of technology. When it comes to eating you achieve the best results when you follow your own instincts. You know when you are overeating and have more willpower than the average Joe, so count yourself lucky on that front.
 
Pisces: The Fish :: February 19 – March 20
You like mellow forms of exercise. Yoga, Tai-Chi and swimming are all perfect for meditative Pisceans. Just because you are not grimacing or grunting doesn’t mean you are not getting benefits from your workout. All forms of yoga will work nicely for you—from gentle restorative Hatha to hardcore, sweat-inducing Vinyasa. With regards to your diet, be gentle with yourself—avoid processed foods and cut out alcohol.
