Rita's Water Ice is giving away a free, regular size Italian Ice to mark the first day of spring. This 17th-annual spring time tradition runs Friday, March 20, 2009 from noon to 10 p.m. at participating locations.

Rita's Water Ice began in 1984 when Bob Tumolo, a former Philadelphia firefighter, decided to open a small Italian Ice business to suppliment his income, naming the business after his wife, Rita.

The Italian Ice, also referred to as water ice, was a big hit with Philadelphians, who are, according to their web site, "arguably the most discriminating water ice eaters in the United States."

And thanks to demand by like-minded lovers of water ice, the Orlando area offers 4 locations. Visit www.ritasice.com for locations and directions.

What's your favorite flavor?
