Yes, it is true - I am promoting a chain restaurant but it is a nice gesture for Veterans to get a night out for dinner. 

If you decide to go to Applebees for Vets Day, here are healthier choice (lower salt and fat) options for you - do not exactly look at their "Low Fat" items...they may contain something else (like salt) that perhaps isn't a good choice for you. 

Low-Fat Tilapia with Mango Salsa

Teriyaki Shrimp Skewers
a pair of skewers of marinated shrimp, served with rice pilaf and fresh steamed vegetables

If you like protein, simply ask for one of their grilled items to be served with steamed veggies and a baked potato.  Do not do the herb mashed potatoes!!!  They are likely very high in salt, if not butter and cream.

Avoid all of the Tex-Mex - even if it says low fat.  It's not...

Ok, so maybe you like getting out to restaurants but would rather try to make some things for yourself at home.  Well, here's a big secret:  You can probably get many of your favorite copy cat recipes at:
