Can we all agree on the fact that SF sucks where restaurant delivery is concerned?  OK, great.  Now that we've got that out of the way, come closer.  I've got a secret for you.

You know your favorite restaurant?  The one that has a 4 week wait for a reservation and great servers and even greater food?  The next time you feel like going there, but you are too tired or lazy to rally, give them a call.  Tell them you'd like to order some food to go.

"But wait!," you say, "Isn't to-go the realm of pathetic chain restaurants, taquerias and pizza by-the-slice?"  To which I say, "No, Virginia, it is not."

Most places will accommodate a "to go" request.  From their point of view, they get the advantage of more covers without having to physically wait on more people.  If they don't feel that it's worth their while, the worst they can say to you is no.  In the case that your request is granted, please, please, please leave a tip (and say thank you) when you pick up your food.  Someone is still working to provide a meal for you.

You will have to get off your lazy ass and go get the food, but you won't have to cook it.  Plus, you can do it up in true ghetto gourmet style and stuff your gullet full of haute cuisine while watching "So You Think You Can Dance" in your sweatpants.   Not that anyone I know does that.
