I love Union Hall. The indoor bocce courts, the library-like bookshelves with couch seating, the warm fireplaces and cool outdoor area, the staff, the music, the Sunday comedy: Union Hall really has everything you could want in a local bar. As long as it's not too crowded, the place nears perfection.
This Park Slope pub backs all those awesome qualities up with a pretty solid craft beer selection. They've always got a Sixpoint draft. Last time I dropped in, I believe I had a Peak Organic IPA. My only complaints would be 1) they tend to not rotate all their taps too often, and 2) they tend to stock crowd pleasers, shying away from bigger beers or risky experiments.
Well, this Saturday, July 7th, toss that nitpickery out the window as Union Hall brings in another of their monthly Beer Geek events. "Vinyl Tap" as they're calling it sounds like good times with a lot of fun activities, but obviously it's the beer list that grabs my attention.
From the official email from the source:
SAT 7/11: 1pm / FREE
UNION BEER & UNION HALL PRESENT: VINYL TAP
A monthly Beer Geek event pouring rare and otherwise limited Brewery Bests from across the globe and our own back yard. Guest DJs spinning fresh and vintage tunes, a used-record Flea, and Burgers and Brats (encased meat, not terrible children) in the alley.
DJ JINNERS SPINNING 80'S AND INDIE ROCK
This Month's Selections:
ST BERNARD, PRIOR 8
DUPONT, BON VOUEX
WITKAP, TRIPEL
JOLLY PUMPKIN, CALABAZA
TWO BROS., HOP JUICE
SOUTHERN TIER, CHERRY SAISON
STOUDTS, DOUBLE IPA
SMUTTYNOSE, SHMUTZIG
ALLAGASH, VICTORIA
WAGNER VALLEY, OATMEAL STOUT
WEYERBACHER, 13TH ANNIVERSARY
ELYSIAN, PORTER FIRKIN
That draft list is a significant upgrade from the usual Union Hall affair. Anything Weyerbacher always gets me excited. And I've yet to try the Smuttynose Shmutzig, a well-hopped wheat, so I'm looking forward to grabbing a pint. Also, as a hophead, seeing Hop Juice and Stoudts Double IPA on draft makes me happy.
Now if only Union Hall could be like this all the time!
