I've been swamped the past few days and missed a number of noteworthy events. But it's not entirely too late for this one.
Today -- Thurday, April 9th -- marked the first day of the 1st ever Cask Ale Event at The Gate in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. Run by Alex Hall of Gotham Imbiber, the event features 10 firkins from 9 different breweries, a number of which are rare imported casks from Britain. Some additional firkins will be tapped throughout the weekend as well. See the list and other details here.
Technically, the event runs until Sunday, but once the kegs are kicked, that's all he wrote, so get to The Gate sooner than later if you want to try everything they've stocked. It's pay-as-you-go, so no admission fees or tickets; Just drop on by.
Also, Saturday the 11th at 2pm, they'll be taking part in the world's biggest toast. That could be interesting...
Another thing to keep in mind: The Gate has awesome outside seating, so if it gets nice this weekend, take it as an added bonus. Though the bar would probably end up even more crowded.
