As the bewitching hour approaches and we await the appearance of the great pumpkin, we have plenty of time to explore the many haunts in Utah with our little pretties, or uglies...depending on the costume they choose.  There are pumpkins, witches and dinosaurs, oh my!

One bonus to having a special needs child is that we get to enjoy the holiday festivities for a much longer time than we do with our "typical" children.  So let's get dressed up, savor the season and enjoy being kids again ourselves!

Boo at the Zoo offers entertainment for children 12 and younger.  They are invited to wear costumes and trick or treat through the zoo. Trick or treat bags will be provided. Admission is free for members.  For older kiddies, there is the Paranormal Dinner and Dark Tour of the Zoo.

Spooky Saturdays at the Museum of Ancient Life will not frighten your little ones.  The event is intended for young kids, or for older kids who still don't like getting the creeps.  The museum offers halloween crafts, a scavenger hunt and face painting at Thanksgiving Point.

Eccles Dinosaur Park is haunted with prehistoric beasts and spooky skeletons throughout the month of October.

Trick or Treating is being offered at many malls around Utah, including the Tanger Outlet Center in Park City.  Little ghosts and goblins can participate.  Bring your own bag and visit the local merchants for tasty treats on Halloween.

Lagoon continues with its Frightmares exhibit that includes three ghoulish haunted houses, not for the faint of heart and one kiddie haunted house that is friendly to all.

Pumpkin Patches throughout Utah offer traditional and non-traditional activities including corn mazes, hay rides, haunted houses, pumpkin picking and horse drawn wagon rides.  You can find one close to you by visiting Pumpkin Patches and more.  Our family visited recession-friendly Sven's Pumpkin patch in Kaysville.  We received a  "free pumpkin" with our visit. We also received free cookies and a horse drawn wagon ride, complete with five pumpkins, all for under $12 and under an hour!
