Even though I'm getting ready for swimsuit season, I can't resist the lure of free ice cream.  Plus, it's great weekend fun for the whole family!  Since this only happens one weekend per year, now is your chance.

But there's a catch.  You have to show up to Bruster's Real Ice Cream in your pajamas to claim your free single-scoop waffle cone.  To search for the location closest to you, click here.

Here's some ice cream tidbits to whet your appetite:

  • The origins of ice cream can be traced back to at least the 4th century B.C.
  • The ice creams we enjoy today are said to have been invented in Italy during the 17th century. They spread northward through Europe via France.
  • The first ice cream parlor in America opened in New York City in 1776.
  • Dolly Madison created a sensation when she served ice cream as a dessert in the White House at the second inaugural ball in 1812.
  • The walk-away edible cone made its American debut at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
  • In 1983, cookies 'n cream, made with real Oreo cookies, became an instant hit, climbing to No. 5 on the list of best-selling ice cream flavors. It also holds the distinction of being the fastest growing new flavor in the history of the ice cream industry.
  • In 1991, another flavor phenomenon was created:  chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream
