One week remains for the biannual Guild Literary Complex Very Short Fiction and Nonfiction Contests. The Chicago-based Guild is known for its bilingual Palabra Pura poetry reading series and its performance-based literary events. The contests switch from poetry to prose each year, and this year's prose contests will be closing in one week. The $500 winner in each category is expected to read at the Guild Prose Awards on Wednesday, December 9th.

Guidelines are standard, one submission per writer, piece must be previously unpublished. Other guidelines are:

  • The writer must be available to read on December 9 or will be ineligible for the prize.
  • Submissions must be post-marked by Monday, November 9, if sent through the postal service.
  • Electronic submissions must be time stamped by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16.
  • Nonfiction submissions may not exceed 5,000 words.
  • Very Short Fiction submissions may not exceed 1,000 words.
  • Please include a word count on the upper right corner of the first page.
