In honor of the 70th anniversary of the 1939 film release of The Wizard of Oz, the Chicago History Museum is sponsoring Oz-tober from Thursday thru Sunday (October 22-25).
Tomorrow night Oz-tober kicks off with a book signing and screening of the classic American tale at The Music Box.
"Author Evan I. Schwartz will discuss his book FINDING OZ: How L. Frank Baum Discovered the Great American Story and will introduce
the Judy Garland classic by pointing out hidden clues to what the characters, symbols and events originally meant to the man who originated Oz while living in Chicago."
Schwartz will sign books after the screening and costumes are encouraged. What would a Dark Side of the Moon costume look like? Tickets are available at the theater box office day-of-show only, which is nice. $9.25 general admission, $8 for Chicago History Museum Members, $5 children under 12. Showtime at 7pm, the ticket office phone is 773-871-6607 to find out box office hours. The Music Box is a Chicago landmark, a classic 800+ seat theater with a huge screen, red velvet curtain and lights twinkling as stars in the midnight blue ceiling. They call it "atmospheric", a throwback to a time when theaters were as much a part of the movie-going experience as the film itself.
The schedule of Oz-tober is:
Thursday, October 22, 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 24, 1:00–5:00 p.m.
Sunday, October 25, 10:00–11:30 a.m.
Sunday, October 25, 2:30–3:30 p.m.
