Howlin Wolf sings in “Poor Boy”:
“I’m going back to Chicago, man, that’s where I’m from
I’m going back to Chicago, man, that’s where I’m from
I got a lot of good friends in Chicago
Place just can’t do me no harm.”
If you’re ever far away from Chicago and homesick, just listen to the Wolf to get you back. Or read some of the words of the Chicago writer who is the subject of our first Thursday night trivia.
Though legendary bluesman Chester Burnett didn’t learn to read or write until later in his life, the Wolf was known to hangout and howl in a strip of street later popularized by a Chicago poet. One of the poet’s seminal Chicago works features a ballad about a poor man’s funeral procession going down this same street. What is the street and what is the title of the collection?
As much as I rely on Google, its search supremacy has simplified the deductive reasoning inherent to trivia into mere type-clicking; I have to be intentionally vague to keep it interesting. In no way is the trivia obscure, however. This is our first Chicago lit Trivia so beware, it's a work in progress.
THE RULES:
Post a comment with your answer on the page. Comments have time stamps so the first person to correctly answer wins.
WINS WHAT?
For now, the esteem of your peers.
In the future there may be some Chicago Lit Trivia that requires you to leave your house. So it's not so much about getting the right answer as it is about being the first one to get to the location and giving the answer to your, um, say...bartender, for instance. Then you redeem your prize. This will require certain permissions, planning and time. We'll see what kind of response we get for the mere love of literature and competition.
