Saturday October 4th at 8pm, Irvine Welsh will be the featured guest at the Windy City Story Slam. Humboldt Park's Quennect 4 Gallery will be buzzing with the cult-hero and internationally-acclaimed Scotsman Irvine Welsh. The Saturday installation, according to WCSS founder and host Bill Hillman, is a preview for moving the monthly Tuesday reading to a weekend night to accomodate the popularity of the WCSS, which has been slamming for less than a year.
In addition to the regular slam (read my article in TimeOut on the slam format), there will be music by The Thin Man and a screening of two films by Iraqi-Chicagoan Director Usama Alshaibi.
WCSS has gotten a lot of mention on the Examiner page because it is one of the city's most dynamic literary events, mixing mediums--film, music, spoken word, written word, art exhibitions--to get to the root of story. Story lovers, the media and writers have taken notice: John McNally will be reading at Chinaski's as part of a special WCSS on October 10th.
This means, of course, that Julia Booshwayz is the winner of last Thursday's trivia.
