So I have recently waxed poetic about the great wine lineup at Mustards in Yountville for their Thursday night Pair-Off, Pour-off promotion. I also thought the food was super simple and divine. You could have a multi-course extravagant meal or simply sip a half glass of suburb Albariño at the bar. As the house was packed I can only imagine that the promotion hits the spot, particularly with European-wine starved locals who may want to check out new wine flavor profiles.

Chef Pawlcyn herself was in house the evening I was there and she and her husband told me about a great new ethnic dining experience they have been hosting at Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen. Once a week chef has been focusing on a new ethnic cuisine and creating a multi-course meal based on it at the restaurant. In the breath time I live in Napa one of the things I missed most was well-prepared ethnic food, so let's give this local chef a huge show of support for bringing some unique foods home to a very California-food focused area of the world. Thank you chef, thank you chef!

Mustards is not the only place in town that is cooking up some great wintertime specials. Chef and owner Todd Humphries at Martini House has also created a family menu for his cellar bar. It's based on basic foods served to staff members before they hit the floor for service. Selections include dishes like spicy pork meatballs at quite affordable prices.

The seminal Napa restaurant has also launched a cleverly titled "Temporary Wine Economic Relief Program," that offers its guests free corkage on Friday and weekend lunches as well as Monday dinner. What's more they are also featuring a 50 percent discount off of their wine list on Monday nights.

It's all the more reason to dine out on those off nights. Cheers,

Liza the Wine Chick
