The Red Hook / Carroll Gardens Open Studio Tour takes place this Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31. For these two days, over 70 area artists working in various media (sculpture, painting, ceramics, photography, and more) will be opening their studios to the public.
If you are an art enthusiast, you do not have to wait until the weekend to enjoy the work that will be on display. To kick off the event, there will be a Sunset Cocktail Opening Party tonight (Thursday, May 28) in Red Hook between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM at 91-99 King Street Carriage Houses, where works by the artists involved will be available for viewing. The pre-tour celebrations continue tomorrow evening, Friday, May 29. Between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, Space 414 Gallery will host the opening of an exhibit entitled “Vintage Violence” (John Gordon Gauld, curator). The show includes the work of 16 artists and consists of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
The tour itself takes place on Saturday and Sunday between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM throughout the neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens and Red Hook, with additional openings, art shows, and special events occurring throughout the weekend. Many, but not all, of the events are free; see the tour’s website for detailed information.
