She has been around for quite some time dressing the likes of Beck, David Bowie, Courtney Love, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kirsten Dunst, Adrien Brody....just to name a few. Though she's not yet a house hold name, Rachel Comey is well on her way.

In 2001 she launched her eponymous line of menswear that stemmed from her inspiration of the music scene. Women began rummaging through Barneys and purchasing the men's line for themselves in smaller sizes. It was no surprise that next came he birth of her women's collection in 2004, that was just as successful. The focus of the brand was also born; vintage feel, slightly masculine. Take a peek at a video from Comey's Fall 08 collection here.

Comey graduated from the University of Vermont with an art degree in sculpture, she incorporates original print-heavy fabrics and modern silhouettes into her line. In addition to clothing, she also creates original accessories and a line of shoes. Her particular use of material and hand craftsmanship has led to a strong international following of chic downtown crew who appreciate the charming style and minute details of her line. Rachel is also a member of the CFDA. Before launching her line, Comey's resume includes a variety of creative projects, including designing stage sets and costumes for musical group Gogol Bordello.

Here in the Back Bay you can purchase Comeys fine designs from Stel's, 334 Newbury St. Stel's never disappoints with what's hot and on the edge at their charming boutique. Stel's packs a lot of punch in their small space and I'm sure they would not have it any other way. Home to many under the radar designers, Stel's carry one of our other favorites, Rogan: from designer Gregory Rogans eco friendly chic line-that was stirring up controversy with some extreme tree huggers-and is actually launching his Loomstate for Target line on Sunday April 19 at select Targets nationwide.
