Kitsap Pumas will amble on down to Laredo for chance at Finals

The Laredo Heat in 2009 PDL action at their home venue at the TAMIU Soccer Complex.

The Kitsap Pumas play the Ventura County Fusion Friday night in Laredo Texas in a quarterfinals match. The winner of that match and the following one between the Laredo Heat and Bradenton Academics will face each other on Saturday night in the semifinals. That winner will be off to the PDL National Championship Final.

Kitsap and Ventura have never faced each other. The Fusion have gotten press recently from hosting newly promoted EPL club Burnley. The Fusion roster page shows a mix of locals, former pros and college talent. Ventura finished third in the Southwest division with a 7-2-7 record and 28 points. In the playoffs the Fusion have beaten Los Angeles Legends 2-1 and Hollywood United Hitmen 3-1. Both victories came on the road.

Host Laredo Heat are familiar with the national stage. The heat won the PDL crown in 2007 and then hosted the 2008 Final while falling 2-1 to the Thunder Bay Chill.

The matches will be held at the home soccer complex for Texas A & M International University. If the Pumas can advance to the Final then it is likely they would host the Championship match in Bremerton on August 8th.
