The Kitsap Pumas sent five players over to Seattle to scrimmage against the Sounders. They were joined by players from the Seattle Wolves. The mix of local players were gathered to give the Sounders (mainly reserves) a chance to stay fit and see opposition besides other guys on the SSFC roster.
(TUKWILA, WA) Seattle Wolves Press Release– One day after playing the Houston Dynamo in their first Major League Soccer postseason match in franchise history, the Seattle Sounders hosted the Seattle Wolves Football Club in a truncated friendly match on Friday morning.
While both clubs train at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, this particular friendly was held on the Sounders’ state of the art training pitch at the Starfire campus. The contest marked the fourth time the two clubs have met in 2009, with the Sounders claiming a 3-1 result behind the scoring efforts of Sebastien Le Toux, Sana Nyassi, and Michael Fucito.
The friendly provided an experimental environment for both Seattle sides, as Fucito played for the Wolves in the first thirty-minute half and scored in the 15th minute.
The Premier Development League club nearly doubled this lead moments later when Wolves talisman Alex Chursky had a point-blank header saved by goalkeeper Terry Boss.
At the restart the Sounders showed their obvious quality, keeping the ball in the Wolves’ half and pressuring their harried defense. Ben Dragavon stood valiantly in the Wolves goal, returning to the club he helped lead to silverware from the Sounders roster.
Despite Dragavon’s efforts, the Sounders fielded a team of experienced MLS professionals that would not be denied. Roger Levesque, Peter Vagenas, Taylor Graham, and former Seattle Wolves player Lamar Neagle featured for the Rave Green side.
Le Toux struck midway through the second half from the top of the 6-yard box with a poised tap-in, while Nyassi scored with a long-range effort from the top of the area. Fucito rounded off the scoring with his second goal of the match, this one counting for the 3-1 MLS victors.
For the Wolves, this friendly provided another stern test against top-flight competition. Meanwhile, the Sounders used this encounter to revive weary legs from the long MLS campaign, and the club will use the next week to regroup before facing Houston in the second leg of their MLS Cup Western Conference semi-final.
