The Salem Statesman-Journal has this sad news to report to us: after 15 seasons of soccer in the Premier Development League Northwest, the Cascade Surge are folding. The Surge were opponents to all three Puget Sound PDL clubs, Seattle Wolves FC, Tacoma Tide FC and Kitsap Pumas.
In 2009 the Surge went winless against our local sides, losing four and drawing one. Overall the Surge had a successful campaign, finishing fourth in the Northwest Division and making a strong push before falling just short of a playoff spot.
Aaron Tredway, a Surge mainstay before moving to Ohio to help found the Cleveland City Stars, told the Statesman-Journal "I appreciated my time in Salem for many reasons, but the way the community supported the team, especially during my last seasons, was outstanding.
The fans made the team because they made the players feel they were special. Having been around (soccer) at every level from PDL to MLS I can assure you that Salem was unique in that way."
The PDL NW had ten clubs in 2009. It is not yet known if another club will come in to replace the Surge.

The Surge visited Tacoma last season for the Tide home opener and fell in a 4:3 thriller.

Cascade came to Bremerton last May for a match against the Kitsap Pumas. Kitsap won 3:0 and later drew 2:2 in Oregon against the Surge.
